Great Pyrenees / Border Collie / Mixed (medium coat) : : Male (neutered)
Please be sure to read this entire bio before applying to adopt. Each dog has different requirements in a forever home and this bio will help you to decide if you are a match for this dog. Bernard was surrendered to a shelter in northern AZ by his owner. His mom is a border collie mix and his dad is a great pyrenese, so we expect he'll be a big boy! Bernard is energetic, exuberant, confident, eager to please, rambunctious, goofy and, did we mention, energetic?! Both his parents are working breed dogs, herding and guarding, so he'll require a savvy and experienced forever family to insure he grows into a well balanced adult dog. Bernard spends much of his time playing with his doggie foster sister (she's an English mastiff mix!). He loves to run and romp around the yard, explore new areas, and express his independence. He also loves to swim! Bernard is very much a great pyrenese and his forever family should have an understanding of this breed, and what this breed requires from a human family. They can be independent, headstrong and, of course, strong protectors who require a confident human leader. Bernard also requires a home with a yard, he is not appropriate for an apartment or other home without a yard. Bernard is a smart boy who is picking up on his training in his foster home including crate and house training. A note from foster mom: He likes to play, he's not a cuddler but still very sweet. Loves his toys, and is smart. I think he will need an active family who understands that guardian breeds are little different. He is definitely more pyr than border in personality. Personality is all pyr. Energy is all border collie. Lots of socializing will be huge because he loves me but can care less about anyone else lol. I make everyone who visits hold him and play with him. Please note: socializing dogs, especially young dogs, is critical to their development. Puppies need to have positive experiences with new people, places, sounds, dogs on a WEEKLY basis to ensure they do not grow into insecure, fearful or even aggressive adult dogs. Please consider this when adopting during this pandemic. Socialization is currently more difficult, but it isn't any less important, so please be sure you can fulfill this need in a new dog before committing to adopt. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application. Because we are still understaffed due to COVID19, we will only be able to email those applicants that are approved to schedule a meet and greet. Thank you in advance for your understanding if you don't hear back from us regarding your application. More about BernardGood with Dogs, Good with Kids, Good with Adults
