Please be sure to read this entire bio before applying to adopt. Each dog has different requirements in a forever home and this bio will help you to decide if you are a match for this dog.

Flipper and his sister Tipsy were abandoned at a shelter at just two weeks old. The whereabouts of mom and any other siblings are unknown and, thankfully, the shelter volunteers kept these babies safe and got them to Paw Placement quickly. We eagerly welcomed them and they've been raised by their dedicated foster mom ever since.

Flipper is friendly and outgoing, affectionate and loving, energetic and playful. He adores his doggie foster siblings and he'd prefer a home with a doggie playmate or two. Flipper is smart and eager to please, and is working on his crate and house training in his foster home. Of course, as with all young puppies, he'll require lots of continued training and socialization in his forever home.

Flipper's breed is an absolute mystery; we expect he'll be medium/large size (50 pounds, give or take 10 pounds) but, when we don't have parents, it's impossible to guarantee adult size so, if this is important to you, Flipper may not be the best match for you. Flipper requires a house with a yard; he is not appropriate for an apartment type setting.

Please note: socializing dogs, especially young dogs, is critical to their development. Puppies need to have positive experiences with new people, places, sounds, dogs on a WEEKLY basis to ensure they do not grow into insecure, fearful or even aggressive adult dogs. Please consider this when adopting during this pandemic. Socialization is currently more difficult, but it isn't any less important, so please be sure you can fulfill this need in a new dog before committing to adopt.

A note from foster mom: When I first took on Flipper and his sister, Tipsy, they were just a pair of two week old brown fuzz balls, opening their eyes for the first time and learning to hobble around. They needed not only a foster mom, but a real mom too, both of which I was more than happy to be for them. Those that know me know first and foremost that each and every one of my fosters has a place in my heart... but I had feeling that Flip would take up a more permanent residence, one he'd always hold even after he'd found a home, no longer needed my care, and my memory had faded. Somehow I knew that before I really even knew him. Over these past several weeks, I have seen flipper grow not only in size and strength, but in gratefulness too and perhaps most of all. In the beginning, both him and his sister required feedings every 2-3 hours, along with constant cleaning and warmth supplementation in order for them to survive/develop normally. On top of that, Flipper needed physical therapy in his right front paw, as he faced a crush injury of sorts sometime within his first two weeks of life. He also had another mysterious injury that left him with a scab (now scar) extending all the way across his back up into his armpit... and, as if that wasn’t enough for him to recover from, he then faced a near death accident in my home at seven weeks old. But I’m not relinquishing these details to get pity from potential adopters... I share these insights because if I didn’t, you’d never know of them. Since becoming my foster, Flipper has sincerely earned the title of "most resilient foster puppy" (this coming from a foster mom who's saved hundreds of dogs over the last decade). He’s been met with challenges no puppy should have to endure, and still has yet to be phased by any of them. I’d like to think that’s partially because of me, but the truth is that Flipper has been the hero of his own story all along. Not every puppy could go through what he's gone through and come out on top when all is said and done. He absolutely loves crinkle toys, tackling his playmates, chewing on marrow bones, rolling in grass, and playing with his food (he says the treats don’t as good if you don’t play hide-and-seek with them first... his words, not mine). Even as young as he is, he's already enjoying his kennel and excelling in kennel training. Whether new or old, bipedal or four legged, he greets everyone with a wagging body because just wagging his tail wouldn’t be enough to show us how excited he is. And, if you had met both Flipper and Tipsy together, you would've thought his feisty sister must’ve been left with only sass for personality because Flipper must've soaked up all the sweetness! This boy only wants to share his love with the world, despite his past traumas... It’s almost like he’s saying “life may have been hard on me, but I’m not going to be hard on life”. Dogs like flipper are few and far between, and they don’t just come from good ownership and caretaking (although that helps a lot!). There’s something in him that’s unexplainably special... and the only way to fully understand what I mean by that is by welcoming him into your life as I have with mine. Until then... you'll catch us on the flip side!

If you are interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application. Because we are still understaffed due to COVID19, we will only be able to email those applicants that are approved to schedule a meet and greet.
