Twiggy was abandoned in the middle of the desert, under a small tree, with her seven 10-day-old babies. By some miracle, a trucker spotted her as he drove by and stopped to help. Sadly, one puppy had already passed away, but the remaining six were healthy and chunky thanks to Twiggy's diligent mothering, while she was a bag of bones.

This little family was welcomed into our most experienced foster home and quickly began to thrive. Twiggy knew immediately she was in good hands, and allowed us to shave (her coat was full of blood from delivering, as well as thorns, foxtails and horrendous mats) and bathe her. She let us handle her babies, seemingly relieved that she now had help. And she ate ravenously, anything we offered, allowing her to continue to nurse her babies and to gain some much needed weight. She even took in a foster kids of her own, pitbull puppy Ivy, who was the same age as her babies and without a family. And then, one by one, she watched all of her babies leave the nest and go home with their forever families. Now, it's Twiggy's turn!

Twiggy is a friendly, outgoing, affectionate, playful, silly and fun young girl. She currently lives with only small dogs, and she loves to wrestle and play with them for hours on end. She'll soon be moved to a foster home with large dogs, as well, so we can get her acclimated to dogs her own size or larger, and we're confident she'll do great! Twiggy is crate and house trained in her foster home and, though it was clear she'd likely never lived inside a home, she's been very respectful of the boundaries set by her foster parents. We haven't been able to rest Twiggy with children, but we suspect - because she loves all humans - that she'll be great with respectful children old enough to have impulse control. Twiggy is overall a wonderful girl who will be an amazing addition to nearly any type of family. We are looking to place her a home with a yard.
