Imagine walking down the aisles of Animal Care & Control with the list of all the dogs who are going to be euthanized. You stop at one kennel where a shepherd mix looks soulfully at you. You know today is her last day. She knows that she is lonely and wants someone to love her. She raises her paw from inside her cage, waiting for a handshake. A little part of your heart breaks. You look at the rows of kennels, with great dogs just like this one, who are not going to ever leave this facility alive. Your hearts breaks alot this time., Every dog we pull from the kill-shelter represents hundreds of other furry faces who were not so lucky. Brigitte is a wonderful representation because she is SMART! She is HOUSE-TRAINED! She is CRATE-TRAINED! She loves learning TRICKS! There is not a single thing "wrong" with her - no glaring behavioral issue that would cause someone to dump her at the pound. She is like thousands of homeless animals who are so because someone wouldnt love them for life., Brigitte deserves to find her lifelong human love. While we will never truly know her history, we can guess at it. Brigitte came to us with cracked and broken canines. Typically, dogs whose teeth are broken in the way hers are, have been crated in body-confining quarters for long and inhumane periods of time. Dogs who are desperate to move, yet are unable, or who must relieve themselves, and cant, attempt to free themselves with the only tools they have - their teeth. But biting wire and hard plastic does more damage to teeth than to a crate. Given Brigitte's docile nature, she must have been placed in unthinkable confinement to make her break her teeth., Paw Placement must have her canine teeth pulled but this wont slow Brigitte down. She will still be able to eat and give happy dog smiles with the best of them.
