Rescue groups go into Animal Care & Control with a list in their hands - the euthanasia list. Basically, we know which dogs are on their last day as we walk the kennel corridor. It is a sad march down those aisles. Goldie Girl was Kennel #39. She sat in the middle of her kennel, patiently watching the parade of people looking for lab mixes, children squealing over puppies and snazzy folks looking for a discarded designer dog. Everyone walked by her - this elongated dog with a drooping belly and sad eyes. We knew it was her last day. We also knew from looking at her that she had likely been used as a backyard breeding dog. At just two years old, it was obvious that Goldie Girl had had many litters. From the looks of her extended belly, it was likely she had just recently weaned puppies. We entered her kennel and she gently wagged her tail as she licked our hands. Her eyes were tranquil when we picked her up. Such a sweet sweet little dog! How could we not bring her home? And so, we snatched her up and closed our eyes as we walked past the kennels and the animals we knew we couldnt take with us. It was Goldie Girl's day! She is house-trained, walks beautifully on the leash and learns commands with ease. She will make an ideal family dog and LOVES to sleep on the bed. She enjoys playing with other canines and ignores cats. Goldie Girl loves playing with rubber balls - she will chase the ball but has not learned to bring it back yet. She plays a one-sided game of fetch. Goldie Girl deserves a home where she is treated like member of the family. This is a little dog who got her name because we know she has a heart of GOLD!
