Black
My human put me in a box and told me she was moving. She could not take me with her. She took me to a place where people I did not know put me in a cold cage with a cardboard litterbox and only newspaper for bedding. The people spoke to me kindly but did not have time to pet me or comfort me. I was scared. Where was my human? For a few days, I sat at the door of my cage and watched many people walk by. Some stopped to talk to me. "Oh, who wants a black cat?!" some would say. "She is two-years old! We want a kitten!" others would say. But I sat patiently, on my flat newspaper bed, knowing my human would return for me. I had been with her since I was a kitten. I purred in her lap and slept in her bed. She loved me like I loved her. She would come back. One day, I began sneezing. It was so cold in this place and I was so confused. With a congested nose and runny eyes, I huddled in my litterbox for warmth. I no longer looked up happily when people stopped to talk to me. I heard one man tap on my cage door and say, "This one is sick. Today is her last day." I looked up. "Sorry girl," he said, "we don't have funding for antibiotics." I hid my head in my litterbox. I did not want to die. What had I done to deserve this? And then I heard a kind voice. "Little Doll," a woman said to me. I looked up. My eyes and nose were crusty but the woman was not repulsed. She spoke gently to me, took me out of my cold cage and into a carrier with blankets. "We will get you better," she said. I was taken to a wonderful warm place, given wet food to eat and a soft lap to lay on. And so here I am! Happy and healthy! I am a beautiful black two-year-old cat with the most loving personality in the world. So many cats are just like me but they don't make it out of the kill-shelters where they are abandoned. Their last life experiences are cold cages, sickness and newspaper beds. If you adopt me, you must promise that I will always be your Doll! Love me forever because I will always love you.
