Clifford?s wisdom is not just apparent from his white whisker-speckled face. His overall ?energy? is pure wisdom and confidence. His acute senses, physique, and impressive ears and nose hint at a possible past career as a hunting dog, but whatever his past entails, at around 8 years of age, he is now retired. Retirement for Clifford does seem to mean re-training in the areas of sitting, walking on-leash without pulling, and indoor potty manners. Butfor the person with time and a doggy door, this smart dog will make quick progress, and there are so many positives!, Clifford still has a passion for adventure and sniffing things out, so a strictly backyard life would be quite a bore for him (he is a hound dog, after all). He would love to have a companion who spends a lot of time hiking and exploring the woods (in moderation, as he is retired), but a leash will be a must on all excursions until Clifford learns to come when called. You know hound dogsany good scent will send them off in a hurry! , There are many nice things about Clifford, and his demeanor exudes trust and a definite experience with being truly loved. Clifford has two habits that dog lovers adore: First, he is a ?butt leaner.? For people unfamiliar with this habit of some large dogs, ?butt leaning? is when a large dog leans his rear-end gently against you as a kind of message: ?I?m with you; I?m your right-hand man; I like to be near you.? Clifford does this with no expectation of being petted as he gazes out at all that is happening around him. Second, he has a sweet habit of ?checking in,? which is a gentle, brief touch of his soft nose to your chinno licking involved. It?s enough to make any single girl swoon! He is such a gentleman, and his sweet caress, while his big brown eyes gaze into yours, is irresistible. , For a hound dog, he doesn?t bark hardly at all, and his tail is actually mellowmeaning it won?t knock over your grandmother, but it does wag a lot! Clifford?s tail exposes how he feels about meeting new peopleit doesn?t stop! He is completely comfortable with new people, with dogs (his foster dad has many), and with horses. He is untested with cats and children, but his demeanor suggests that he would be great with kids over 8 years of age. , Clifford is a large, short-haired dog, and he weighs approximately 60 pounds. His ribs are still showing, so he could probably still use to gain 5 to 10 pounds. , He likes to listen to pleasant conversation, especially when it is about him, and he?ll never say ?no? to a nice ear rub. And what ears they are! More about Clifford - In FlagstaffGood with Dogs, Good with Kids
