About Shadow- ADOPTED

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: 2039
Shadow was a very scared abandoned dog. Within two weeks, I was able to pen her in my backyard and earn her trust. She was skin and bones and frightened as you can imagine. Now, she is just gorgeous and a HUGE love bug! I?ve trained her, socialized her (a lot of hugs and kisses!) gotten all of her shots and had her spayed. She?s an amazing girl!! , She is super affectionate and will snuggle right up to you. When she's ready for bed, she curls up and zonks out on her bed on the floor. When she needs to spring to action, she's ready! Shadow loves to stalk geckos and chase flying bugs and she's excellent at catching them! She loves to catch Frisbees and balls and catches them in mid-air. Shadow is house-broken, dog-door trained and leash-trained. She has a sweet disposition, does well with kids and other dogs. We have an active dog that Shadow loves. They play chase a lot. We don't have a cat and we haven't come across any on walks, so I don't know how she gets along with cats. She responds well to consistent, positive reinforcement and comes when I call her. Shadow is in excellent health per our vet. She's a very healthy 47 pounds, with a beautiful shiny pure black coat. She's very agile, active and leaps like she's on springs! She is past the puppy stage, but still very young and will adapt well to a new family. She needs a good sized yard to explore and a family that can give her lots of love and LOTS of exercise. If you are a walker, hiker or runner, she would love that. She would be an excellent agility dog, too and is very smart. Shadow is still very cautious and a little skittish around most men and some women for the first few minutes, but takes to them readily when she sees that we're friends. She?s not a barker, but she's excellent at barking only when someone comes right up to the house. We think that she's a German Shepherd/Black Lab mix because her nose is boxy like a lab and has Shepherd ears and hind quarters. We have all shot records from our vet and MASHSITE.com who spayed her and administered her most recent round of shots. She has never chewed furniture, but she chewed a couple books when we left and forgot to leave out a chew treat and toys. She is young enough to need to chew, so she will need rawhide bones, Kongs, etc. She digs only small scratches (about two inches deep) in the decorative rock in the backyard to hide her chew treat or to find a gecko, but not in the grass. She likes Purina Pro Plan. She also gets flavor-basted rawhide chew strips or sticks. She also loves chicken jerky and Milkbones. She needs an active, very loving, patient forever home and would love to have another dog to play with! Shadow is not disposable no matter what happens in your life...moving, marriage, divorce, babies, or any perceived inconvenience on your part. You must be able to commit to her, love her unconditionally and treat her like a family member for the next 16, 17 or ? years! Adoption fee, vet reference and home check apply.
