Dachsund/Jack Russell Mix

About Olive

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: 1406
Olive is a sweet, feisty, and smart Jack Russell mix (probably with Dachshund due to her facial structure; however, as she grows, she looks less and less like a Dachshund). She's looking for her forever home. She came from a situation where she was kept on the balcony of an apartment and was completely ignored. She came to me very timid and shy, but has now blossomed in a matter of days into an active, sweet little puppy. It is assumed that she will not be very big when full-grown, given her breed background. Olive is a VERY active little girl. She runs and jumps and leaps from couch to couch on the armrests or backs like a little mountain goat. She is still very much in the teething and biting puppy stage and needs someone who can work her through it. She loves tennis balls and chewsticks. She is working on potty-training and crate-training. She sleeps with no problems in her crate, but does cry when left alone in it during the day. She will potty in her crate if not let out often enough, therefore she cannot be expected to be left alone for eight hours a day while someone is at work while she is this young. She needs someone who works fewer hours or is able to come home on a lunch break and let her out. She is not old enough to be left alone in the house free to roam. She also gets carsick, and although she will probably outgrow it, she won't be a puppy to take everywhere with you if it involves long car rides, at least for the time being. Being part terrier, she also loves to dig. She should be supervised in the backyard to avoid any unwanted digging. Because of this, I would prefer she not go to a home with chainlink fencing, as she could easily dig under it. She would also need to be supervised outside if there is a pool with a fence, as she could easily squeeze through the bars. I have not had her around other dogs yet. I think she will do fine with the proper introduction, but I won?t know for sure until she has the experience. She met a cat the other day and was friendly with him. We were at the vet's office though, so she wasn?t let loose. I can?t guarantee she wouldn?t chase a cat out of pure play instinct. She also spent a few days with my friend?s two year-old son while he was staying with me. She was friendly with him, but a little rough. She likes to jump up and accidentally scratches and play bites, so older children that aren?t at her level might be better for her., She also loves to cuddle at night when she?s tired. Her favorite thing is to curl up under the covers with you and be as close to you as possible. Olive needs a family that will devote their time and love to her. They need to understand the activity level of the Jack Russell breed and work with her to keep her energy directed in appropriate places. But mostly she just wants someone to love her forever and ever., Olive has her own MySpace page where you can learn more about her.
