Rottie/Staffordshire Terrier Mix

About Hildee

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: 1323
I believe Hildee is a mix of a mix. Her mother was apparently a Rottweiler (although she could have been a Rottie mix) and we are not positive what other breeds she is mixed with. I am pretty sure she has some Staffordshire Terrior in her, and the vet agrees with me. She has the classic Pit Bull smile! She also has some really short little legs and a long body, so she also may have some Corgi genes. I originally thought she was going to be a BIG dog, but now that I see the way she is growing, I think she is going to remain pretty low to the ground but grow very stocky, maybe around 40 pounds (just a guess). Hildee is all puppy! She is rambunctious, determined, strong-willed, smart, active, and very, very strong. She is not slowed down by anything and has an endless supply of energy. She loves chewing (as all puppies do) and likes her bones and toys. She also loves tissues, toilet paper rolls, and dust bunnies. I would definitely say she is a Hoover vacuum in dog form, so anything on the floor goes in her mouth. She is very vocal, and barks and growls when she wants something or when she?s playing. She is pretty much housebroken already. I usually leave the door open for her, but if it is closed she will whine. At new houses she won't know where the door is, so a few accidents are to be expected until she gets used to her new home. She sleeps in a crate at night, and will sleep through without having to go potty. She will whine in the morning when she has to go. She also stays in her crate when I am not home. Therefore, a crate is a must! We are working on training right now and she knows "sit" and "down." We will work on leash training soon. Hildee really needs a home that will provide FIRM structure. Her future family needs to commit to obedience training and will need to keep her involved in activities that will quench her desire for energy release. Agility, flyball, or just regular hiking and running would be great. With exercise, she is a totally different dog and focuses much easier. She?s such a love when she is worn out! She would love a big fenced yard to play in! I?ve never had her around cats, so I?m not sure of her reactions to them. Given her playful nature I would assume she will chase them, so unless the cat enjoys being chased by a 20-pound puppy with razor-sharp puppy teeth, it?s probably best she doesn?t go to a home with cats. She does great with other dogs now and would love to be in a home with dogs to play with. She is very playful, so it would need to be a dog that enjoys playing as much as she does. I?m also recommending she go to a home with kids over 8. She loves kids but can be rough when playing and could easily hurt a child younger than that. She is very mouthy still and needs a family that will understand that she?s a puppy and needs training. Her ideal family would be one that is active physically that can take her with them when they exercise, will spend a large amount of time on obedience, and are not gone all day. Because she is a puppy, she cannot be expected to sit in a crate for 8 hours a day while no one is home. She needs someone who has a flexible schedule and will have her out to play for at least half the day. I do not want her to go to first-time dog guardians as she needs someone with experience that can direct her behavior in an appropriate direction and understand the actions and behaviors of a puppy. Someone with experience with her breed-mix would be a plus since they can understand the type of training those breeds need and will be on top of her socialization and obedience. She is such a silly little puppy. She cracks me up every day with her antics. She chases her tail, tumbles over herself, splashes in the water, lays ?jungle dog? in the bushes, and acts as though she?s as big as an elephant. She loves to lay on your lap while you hold a bone for her to chew on. I?ve recently discovered that she loves to chase the beam of those red laser pointers. It keeps her occupied for a long time and she?ll running when she sees you pick it up. She also LOVES the outdoors (but will not be KEPT outdoors) and will just roll in the grass by herself and watch the birds fly by. She?s a little cutie who just doesn?t understand her strength and what?s right and wrong quite yet. She will make some active family very happy and she looks forward to meeting you!, To see more on Hildee, click here. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=74316838
