One of the most rewarding aspects about rescuing dogs is the discovery of their real personality. Trapped in the system of Animal Control, they are often afraid to show their true colors. If they are also fighting an illness, the search for their true character becomes even more difficult. Lovely Holly is a perfect example. When we first rescued Holly, her ears and tail were bleeding and she seemed shy and a little withdrawn. Shortly after, we discovered that she had pneumonia, which was reducing her breathing capacity quite significantly. With a lot of TLC and veterinary care, Holly made a full recovery. At the same time, she blossomed into an adorable, quirky young lady who, despite her 55 pounds, seems to think she is a lap dog. Her hound heritage comes through in a velvety voice whenever she lets out her typical, heartfelt howl to talk to you. Holly is truly remarkable for her zest for life, affection, and happy-go-lucky attitude. She would be a perfect companion for a fun-loving and active family with or without other animals.
