Lucy found me around June 10th. I had noticed her for a couple of days prior to that while I was walking my dogs. As I walked down the sidewalk with my dogs, she would walk parallel with us along the sidewalk across from my house. When we got down to the park, she would turn around and head back. She never barked or crossed the street. On the evening of the 10th when I came home from work, she was laying on my front step (literally!). She must have figured I was okay, since I wandered around with my dogs. I put her in the backyard, and talked to her. She was very loving and wanted to snuggle - one of her strongest traits to this day. She had an open wound on her back around the size of a tennis ball. It was bloody and had maggots in it. I put the hand-nozzle on my hose, and essentially power washed the area to clean it out. I then gave her two baths. She was smelling good in no time! I gave her some food and water, which she devoured almost immediately., It was clear to me that she was abused. She had cuts on her head, and was extremely timid. She cowered every time you moved your hand (as if she were afraid you were going to hit her), but clearly was a loving animal. All she wanted to do was lay in my lap, and get her head pet. Oh, and she loves to lick! Loves to give big wet kisses! I called my sister in Tucson, and asked if she wanted her (I already have 3 dogs, and she had been talking about getting another dog for her dog to play with), and that I would take her to the vet and get her fixed up if she did. She accepted, and the next morning, Lucy and I were off to the vet. I dropped her off to get some test and shots done and headed to work., About an hour later, the vet called and explained that he open wound was actually a burn (!)about the size of 2 tennis balls, and that she had gangrene. The vet explained that she would need surgery to remove all of the infected skin, and would require lots of care afterwards. Since I had already fallen in love with her, I agreed to have all the work done that was necessary for her to have a great life! I picked her up two days later and transported her to my sister in Tucson. During her stay in Tucson, we learned several things about Lucy: 1. She LOVES graham crackers! 2. She loves to play in the water. Sprinklers, hoses, you name it. If you hold a hose and just move it back and forth in the air, she will play until she is literally exhausted. She might even like to swim, but I don?t know for sure. 3. She is fine with older kids and she loves to be snuggled. She is very affectionate, and will lay in your lap and get scratched and lick you until the cows come home. I think she may possibly be the largest lap dog in the world., 5. She loves to play and run! My sister took very good care of her until she was better. So, she came back to Phoenix to be placed at Paw Placement. Anyone Lucy chooses to live with will be extremely lucky. She is the sweetest dog ever, and will be a great addition to any household!!!! Lucy is greedy when it comes to her toys and has shown some resource guarding. As such, any child in the home should be old enough to know that Lucy does not share toys or food.
