Boo is the easiest foster I have ever had. He would do best in a quiet, low-traffic home with a confident female dog. He needs a human who will be gentle and patient with him. He does not do well with commanding but will do anything to please when encouraged or shown softly. He is gentle, calm, quiet eager to please and has never chewed, dug holes, torn anything up or pottied in the house. He loves his toys and his compressed rawhides. He is great with the cats and has been introduced on numerous occasions to a pet rat. He is crate trained and loves his crate. He responds very well to positive reinforcement. He sometimes tries to get on the furniture, but has learned to ?get down Boo? when first asked. His favorite past-time is to free the backyard of all butterflies and birds. He chases them out of the yard continuously when we are outside. His long legs flailing remind me of a gangly teenager. He loves to cuddle and be as close to you as possible. He rides well in the car and loves to be brushed. He doesn?t mind having his nails cut, his teeth brushed or his ears cleaned. When Boo does bark, he has a very deep loud bark that almost startles you because you don?t expect this sweet dog to sound so big and strong. Sometimes when he plays, he will growl and bark a little with happy tail wagging. This deep growl and bark is also startling because he is so sweet and gentle. He and my black female lab follow me everywhere. I call them my two black bookends. He has been through in-home and group obedience classes. He has great eye contact, he comes, and he sits, downs, stays and walks wonderfully on a leash. He comes to his name without a second thought. I could not ask for a better foster dog. Coming from a rough situation, Boo does have a few issues that prevent him from going home with children or male dogs. Boo is very protective of his food dish when he is eating. Easily solved! He eats in his crate and I don?t feel the need to challenge him. He must be kenneled to eat or he growls seriously at the human or another dog. He gets a bit worried in new situations and needs the opportunity to go slowly. He has a bit of stranger-fear, and when meeting new people, it needs to be done slowly with encouragement. He loves kids but on his own terms. If they run up to him he becomes worried and tries to back away. If they let him come to them he is happy to get a few pets. A child will never be able to put their arms around his neck nor would a stranger be able to hug him. He likes the world to be all about him and his harem of female dogs at the dog park. He sometimes tries to pick on a submissive male. He is easily diverted in all situations. As you see, Boo has many great qualities and a few quirks, but doesn?t any dog? He is so easily managed and would make a wonderful addition to a quiet, patient, all-adult calm home with a confident female dog to play with.
